EchoStar PVR-5020 mod

Last update: 15-09-2005

This site is dedicated to the modification of an EchoStar PVR-5020 satellite receiver

The idea: build in a HDD removable bracket in the front, a blue frosted transparent cover, a blue cold cathode lamp in the back of the box (switchable with the 0/12v option in the lnb menu), remove all front buttons.

Kicked off from my old webserver but...tada... found a new one :-)

Hope you guys can still find me on my new URL: http://pvr-5020mod.rodesmurf.nl

By the way, i found some one who is gonna bend my new cover, finally :-)

My 5020 is already running 4 months now with an ugly front and not fitting cover but I don’t really care. So will be continued.....

The 5020 is up and running again but I’am still searching for a way to bend the final cover the way i like it.

Here some old pictures from before I started modding my 5020 but with the removable harddisk build on top of the receiver:

The final result of the print:

Built in the print in the receiver. Also built in the blue cold cathode lamp, switchable whit the 0/12v option in the LNB menu.

Built in a removable HDD bracket in the PC.

I will continuing redesigning the front panel later on, for now I sawed the original frontpanel in 2 parts and will solder an 18 pins flatcable in between. Than I can put the smallest part of the print behind the largest part so it fits beside the bracket. I will bring the three LEDs to the front on a small separated print.

Started to redesign the front panel print.

.....:: 04-04-2005 ::.....

Mounted the HDD bracket in the case. Decided to make the cover higher, from 5 to 7 cm. Also tried to bend the transparent cover, didn’t work out. Try that next time again.

Sorry, no pictures this time...

.....:: 31-03-2005 ::.....

Cutted the front of the metal case.

Moved the power supply from the left of the receiver to middle just above the mainboard.

Placed the HDD removable bracket.

Moved the PCI cable to under the mainboard.

Next things to do; Mount the HDD bracket on the case. Redesign the frontpanel print.

By the way, check out the Links section of this site, added more links ;-)

Have a first look at the empty case with the new blue cold cathode fluorescent lamp under the new blue frosted cover.

Build out the main board and power supply. Al what was left, an empty case:

And a front display print to begin with:
